A romantic drama inspired by real-life flying couple Bill Lancaster and Jessie 'Chubbie' Miller, whose aviation exploits in the 1920s and 30s led to Lancaster's mysterious death in the Sahara in 1933. In 'The Last Flight', Marion Cotillard plays Marie, Lancaster's wilful and stubborn flying partner and lover, who flies solo into the desert to try and find him. Arriving in the Tuareg heartlands, she meets Antoine, a rebellious captain from a remote French camel corps, who gets caught up in her dangerous mission. In the oppressive heat and under the massive, empty skies, the pair find themselves falling in love.

In the middle of nowhere, an inner city neighbourhood that has been deserted by it’s  inhabitants several years ago.
And yet, some people have decided to stay, more by choice than necessity, because they were either born, or grew up there.

Amongst them is Francis, a conscientious factory worker who continues to repair the machine that he has worked on all his life ; Samir, his son, who returns after a long absence ; but also Maria, the neighbour, who lives alone with her son José, who  believes his father is Gary Cooper.
Everyday he waits for him in the street of this modern no man’s land, which resembles uncannily a Western movie set…

Improvisation

Raed Andoni, the director, followed them on this adventure. The three brothers travel between Ramallah, Nazareth and Paris, pass (with difficulty) through the checkpoints, work, laugh, cry and argue. Their music is improvised, as is their life, from day to day, as they speak of their personal, and collective identity, all under the watchful eye of their parents, who are both proud of and concerned for their offspring. Indeed, things aren't all that easy with their parents either, as they all take it in turns to talk about their desires and future projects, in a family where nobody hesitates to say what's on his mind!
